I grew up in Shivalik. The same block as EVOO. I have seen Malviya Nagar transform around me from having one little restaurant to a full-blown food street. But never had I imagined such a fancy cool place finding its home here. Once, while walking from the metro station to Shivalik, EVOO took us by surprise. The entrance was so alluring that we just had to go in. That evening we tried their pumpkin gnocchi, pizza and salad.
EVOO has a short but excellent selection of wood oven pizzas, freshly baked bread, a variety of pastas and mains (risottos, gnocchi, spaghetti and more), scrumptious panuozzas (similar to calzones, except with a thinner wrap) and beautiful desserts. They also serve Blue Tokai Coffee.
One question that troubled us was the name. What did it mean? On our last visit, we had a long conversation with Rohit (the manager) who told us that it is an acronym for Extra Virgin Olive Oil. EVOO is in all their food. He also told us that in the next phase they are planning to increase their delivery radius and introduce a selection of wines in the menu.
What we like the most about their food are the simplicity and balance. As believers of minimalism, we detest extra cream and pink sauce in other Italian restaurants. EVOO has got the balance of ingredients, seasoning and herbs just right which is topped with excellent service.
Everything is worth trying here, at least once. Our favourites are beetroot and arugula salad, Italian pulled pork panuozza, pan-fried gnocchi (maybe a bit of an acquired taste), Parma ham pizza, wild mushroom risotto and vanilla bean pannacotta.
We will be visiting again to try their other mains.
Leave your car at home to visit EVOO and embrace public transport as parking can be tight here
